Sergey Plushkin
Sergey Plushkin is a man who is dedicating his own life to personally and positively impacting the lives of orphans in his home city of Apatity, located inside the Arctic Circle in northwestern Russia, and God has uniquely called and qualified him for the task. When he is not working at the city heating plant, Sergey is visiting local orphanages to love and mentor children, and when he talks to the orphans they listen. That is because Sergey spent eight years in one of the orphanages he ministers in today, so he is able to “speak the language” the kids understand.
In his teens Sergey got into trouble and was sent to a boy´s prison for two years where he was trained as a baker. He married in his twenties, but a drinking problem caused his marriage to fall apart and brought him to a low point in his life. While visiting a small Pentecostal church he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and his life was radically transformed. Now Sergey wants to see the lives of orphanage children transformed as well. On weekends and holidays he takes children to his flat where he teaches them cooking and house cleaning skills. On Sundays he takes them to church.
Sergey is in the process of establishing a private Christian orphanage in his town. He has applied for and received guardianship over three boys who will begin living with him in December 2005. He would like to expand this outreach to more orphans but will need to rent a larger living space, furnish it, and develop a staff. He has stepped out in faith, but he needs the partnership and financial support of others who will stand with him and encourage him in this work. Sergey welcomes relationships with other believers and has personally made arrangements for mission teams to visit orphanages in the region. He is a deeply committed servant and has excellent organizational skills. Helping Sergey will make a real difference in the lives of Russian orphans.
